Ganesh Chaturthi in 2012 is on Wednesday, September 19th. Ganesh Chaturthi is a festival celebrate in the month of Bhaadrapada according to Hindu religion Calendar, at the beginning of Shukla Chaturthi (the fourth day of the waxing moon period).
   

Ganesh Chaturthi Festival is celebrated with great devotion throughout India. People bring home murtis of Lord Ganesha and celebrate by worshiping the Lord in a special way for a day and a half, 5 days, 7 days or 11 days, according to family tradition and commitment of each individual.

The last day of worship of the idol is taken in a colorful procession and music to be immersed traditionally in a sea, lake, ponds, etc.

This is one of the most popular festivals in the country. There are several reasons for this. Ganpati is after all a popular God. His blessings are invoked at most religious ceremonies as he is one who can remove all obstacles to success. He is the giver of fortune and can help prevent natural disasters.

Ganpati, god of wisdom and the benevolent deity of the dynasty of Peshwas who ruled Maharashtra inculcating a special culture of the state. Ganpati is the herald promising start and he is the god loved by all.
